What LicenseReady is
LicenseReady is an independent exam-preparation service for the Florida contractor licensing exams: the Business & Finance exam every trade takes, the General, Building, and Residential contractor exams, and the HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, roofing, and pool trade exams administered for the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB).
The product is a study system, not a question dump: adaptive practice built on spaced repetition, full-length timed simulations that match the real exam's length and open-book rules, and a readiness score that tells you when booking the exam is a reasonable bet. The guides, the per-exam breakdowns, the reference-book notes, and ten practice questions a day are free.
Who writes and reviews the material
LicenseReady is built by a Florida-licensed contractor. Our founder holds a Class A Air Conditioning (HVAC) license and a Certified Building Contractor license, and has also passed the state General Contractor exams. That is the person who signs off on what we publish, and the standard is simple: would a licensed contractor who sat these exams wince at it?
Every practice question, whether drafted by our team or with software assistance, goes through that in-house review before it is sold as premium content. Questions that fail review are fixed or cut. Our free guides are written to the same standard and checked against the primary sources listed below before they go live.
Where the facts come from
We do not invent statute numbers, fees, or exam figures. Exam structure (question counts, time limits, the 70% passing score, the approved-reference rules) comes from public Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and testing-vendor publications. Everything else traces to the official references the exams themselves are built on:
- Florida Statutes, Chapter 489 (contractor licensing), Chapter 713 (construction liens), Chapter 455 (professional regulation), and Chapter 440 (workers' compensation).
- 29 CFR Part 1926, the OSHA construction safety standards.
- The Florida Building Code and the Florida Mechanical Code.
- AIA contract documents and the Builder's Guide to Accounting, as referenced by the exam blueprints.
What we do not claim
No official pass rates exist. The State of Florida does not publish per-exam pass rates, so we do not quote any, and we do not invent testimonials or success statistics. The exams are hard by design, and our material says so.
No real exam questions. Every item in our bank is original work written to the official content outlines. Reproducing actual examination content is a crime under Florida law, and no provider should be doing it.
No affiliation. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the DBPR, the CILB, or Professional Testing, Inc. Studying with us does not guarantee a passing score or a license; our Pass Guarantee is a refund policy with specific conditions, spelled out in full on the guarantee page and in our Terms.
How to use what we publish
Our guides are free to read, link to, and cite. When you quote a figure, link the guide you took it from; each one lists its sources and the date it was last updated, and rules and fees change. If a current DBPR instruction differs from anything we have written, the DBPR controls.
